Two thirds of Gen Z admit they love wearing clothes with food stains

Survey reveals Gen Z embrace messy meals, spills at weddings, and the joy of stains over fashion perfection

Gen Z aren't afraid to wear their meals on their sleeves—literally. A new survey finds nearly two thirds of young adults happily strut around in clothes with food stains.

The poll of 2,000 adults found 64 per cent of Gen Z have walked in public with food clearly down them. They're also most likely to ruin a brand-new item straight away, with 62 per cent admitting they spill on new clothes, compared to just 23 per cent of Boomers.

Special occasions aren't safe either. The research found 74 per cent of Gen Z have dropped food or drink on themselves at weddings, dates, or other events, versus 32 per cent of those aged 61–78.

Stains are part of the fun

The research was commissioned by Uber Eats to celebrate a new collaboration with Rosa's Thai. The T-shirts are designed to embrace messy eating.

Saiphin Moore, founder of Rosa's Thai, said: "At Rosa's, we say embrace the mess. A splash or two is a sign of a great meal. Our Uber Eats bundle celebrates the spills and stains that come with truly great Thai comfort food."

The survey also revealed that 37 per cent of adults hold onto stained items they can't wear, while one in three doubt they could remove tough spills. T-shirts, shirts, jumpers, and blouses are most commonly ruined, but even socks aren't safe from catastrophic spills.

Nearly a third (31 per cent) now have clothes reserved specifically for mucky meals. Tomato sauces, oils, grease, and gravy are the biggest culprits—but 24 per cent think stains are part of the joy of eating.

Saskia de Jongh from Uber Eats added: "We hope that people will fully embrace the joy of delicious, messy meals, designed for devouring at home."
